Hi. I’m Lara (pronounced Lah-ra).
I’m a mama to a 7-year-old daughter and 3-year-old twin boys. We live just outside of Indianapolis, though my heart will forever belong to New York City where we lived before starting a family.
This is not the first time I’ve written this “About Me” page and I doubt it will be the last. I started this blog as a way to clear the air after surviving the first year with twins and rediscover joy in every day, hence the name Joy, Lovely Joy (I wish I would have given more thought to the title of this blog before diving in but there it is).
Yes, I’m a mommy who blogs (cliche, I know) and I write about my children a lot, but I’m also a freelance writer with a background in children’s publishing. You can read more about that here. I’m also a writer (separate from the freelance work). At the moment I’m working on revising a picture book manuscript and inching through a first draft of a middle grade novel.
So. The kids.
Mia is 7 years old. She’s my first born and my only girl. We recently took her to Disney World for the first time and though she looks especially contemplative in this photo, she told me as we were leaving Epcot to catch our flight home, “I never want to leave this world,” and I think that’s a pretty accurate description of how I feel about motherhood.
As I write this, Wyatt & Luke are 3 ½ years old.
They still share a language all their own and I still feel like I’m always choosing who needs me more in that moment. They are light and laughter and energy, and though I was never someone who necessarily wanted twins, my takeaway from this journey thus far is to remain open to life’s surprises.
Thanks so much for stopping by. Grab a cup of coffee or tea and poke around for a bit. The thing I’ve loved most about blogging since I started is the connections I’ve made with other bloggers/readers/writers/mothers. Drop a note in the comments to say “Hi” or email me at joylovelyjoyblog (at) gmail (dot) com. I’d love to hear from you.
